Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex’s daughter Lady Louise Windsor,17, is reportedly the Queen’s favourite grandchild on account of her close bond with Prince Philip. Since the Duke of Edinburgh’s death in April, Louise has allegedly made an impact on the monarch, as well as Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge. Louise turns 18 in November and will decide whether to take a royal title and if to go to university.

Her mother Sophie admitted she hopes her daughter will go to university in the coming year rather than become a working member of the Royal Family.

In 2020 Sophie said: “She’s working and will do A-levels.

“I hope she goes to university. I wouldn’t force her, but if he wants to.

She added in the Sunday Times interview: “She’s quite clever.”

Royal commentator Camilla Tominey has noted comparisons between Louise and a young Princess Elizabeth.

Writing in the Telegraph Ms Tominey said: “Now 17, Lady Louise bears a striking resemblance to a young Princess Elizabeth, and is said to share something of her character too.

“He is ‘studious’, according to one insider, ‘a good girl.

“‘She’s totally conscientious and straightforward’.

“Not unlike then, how her granny is said to have been as a girl – modest, sensible and mad about horses.”

Lady Louise lives near Windsor Castle and is thought to have a close relationship with the Queen.

She inherited her love of carriage driving with the Duke of Edinburgh, who taught her the sport.

The Daily Mail reported that Louise even inherited Philip’s carriage and two Fell ponies, called Balmoral Nevis and Notlaw Storm.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told the Telegraph: “There are shades of the young Elizabeth,

“There is something about her – a capability.

“She’s obviously a very gentle woman.”

Louise’s mother Sophie is also widely reported to be a favourite of the Queen, and has emerged as a reliable source of support for Her Majesty in a tumultuous year.

According to a royal aide, the bond between the countess and the Queen is comparable to the monarch’s relationship with the late Princess Margaret and Queen Mother.

One royal aide told the Daily Mail in 2018: “She talks to Sophie in the way she used to talk to Princess Margaret.

“Sophie has filled the terrible gap in the Queen’s life that was left when her sister and the Queen Mother died in 2002.”
