Lady Gabriella Windsor reveals horrific fear of wardrobe malfunction in front of the Queen
Lady Gabriella Windsor’s Royal Wedding could have taken a tragic turn if her hairdresser hadn’t made sure her tiara was tightly secured in her locks. The 52nd-in-line to the throne opened up on her wedding day and the chilling fear she experienced just minutes before getting married. Lady Gabriella, known among her friends simply as Ella, revealed she felt her tiara “pulling back” as she was walking down the aisle to join the groom, which filled her with fear the unique jewel would come “crashing down” in front of Queen Elizabeth II and her other guests.
She told Hello! Magazine: “Suddenly I could feel my tiara start to pull back and in those few unnerving moments I thought it would come crashing down with an almighty clunk.
“My little bridesmaids had accidentally wandered on to my very sheer tulle 20ft veil.
“I slowed down until they’d stepped off it, but then it happened again.
“Fortunately my hairdresser had pinned the tiara in place and it stood firm.”
The daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent married financier Thomas Kingston in Windsor on May 18 – at the same chapel where both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank tied the knot in 2018.
Lady Gabriella chose for her wedding day a gorgeous Luisa Beccaria gown, which is now on public display at the designer’s Paris Couture Week show.
Being reunited with her dress for the first time in weeks, Lady Gabriella said: “It was a magical day and Luisa created a wonderful dress for me.
“This is the first time I’ve seen it since the wedding and it brings back so many happy memories.”
The royal explained she had met the designer through her parents.
But she broke with the tradition and didn’t let her mother and father take part in the choice and design of the dress, as Lady Gabriella wanted the final result to be a complete surprise for them.
She said: “I wanted to surprise both of my parents on the day so worked closely with Luisa without any family seeing the dress as it came together until my wedding day.”
Among the royal guests who took part in the celebrations, there were the Queen alongside her husband Prince Philip, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson and their daughter Princess Beatrice – who formally introduced to the royal world her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Prince Harry made a surprise appearance without Meghan, at the time heavily pregnant with their first child – Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor.
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William were also there, but decided to leave their three children at home.
