LadBaby scores second Christmas number one with I Love Sausage Rolls

YouTube star LadBaby has said it is a “Christmas miracle” after winning the Christmas number one title for the second year running – beating Stomzy, Lewis Capaldi and Dua Lipa to the top spot.

The dad-blogger and internet star, real name Mark Hoyle, smashed through to the top of the charts with his festive charity single I Love Sausage Rolls, sung to the tune of I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll by Joan Jett.

LadBaby’s first Christmas number one was also about sausage rolls.

The 2018 hit was called We Built This City and was his own original take on Starship’s classic hit.

His latest song has sold 18,000 copies more than his previous sausage-roll themed tune. His 2019 hit has been bought 93,000 times this week, the Official Charts Company said.

LadBaby’s song sees him become the first singer to score consecutive Christmas number ones in more than 20 years.

The Spice Girls had managed three Christmas number ones in a row between 1996 to 1998 with their hits 2 Become 1, Too Much and Goodbye.

LadBaby told OfficialCharts.com: “How have we done this again? It’s the best feeling in the world – it’s a Christmas miracle yet again!”

All proceeds will go to food bank charity The Trussell Trust for the second year running.

LadBaby said: “Thank you everybody for supporting us once again, and all for an amazing cause. It’s going to the Trussell Trust – to the 14 million people living in poverty in the UK. Who doesn’t love a sausage roll at Christmas?”

Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company, congratulated LadBaby and had words of comfort for the award-winning, internationally renown singers that were beaten to the top spot.

Mr Talbot said: “Congratulations to Ladbaby. It is a superb achievement to score an official Christmas number one once, let alone twice in successive years.

“And to do so with increased sales year on year is quite phenomenal – and all for a fantastic cause.

“Of course, commiserations to Stormzy, Lewis Capaldi, Dua Lipa and Wham! who made up the official top five in what has proven to be a genuinely competitive race, which has ended up spanning generations and genres.”

In second place was Stormzy’s single Own It, with Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy, while Capaldi’s Before You Go came in at number three and Lipa’s Don’t Start Now is at number four. Christmas classic Last Christmas by Wham! is at number five.
