King warned only one thing will ensure he leaves a legacy – but he won’t do it

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive at church

King Charles does not have enough time to create a strong legacy under his “limiting” reign, a former royal butler has claimed.

Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell said that the late Princess of Wales’s prophecy has come true.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Burrell stated: “I think Diana’s prophecy when she said ‘I think my husband will find it rather limiting’ [being monarch] has come true.”

The former royal butler went on to say that the only thing which could boost the King’s reign would be to go “back to his roots” and campaign for the environment and the homeless.

He explained: “I don’t think [Charles] has the time to create a strong legacy for his reign unless he goes back to his roots and starts to campaign for the environment, for the homeless, but then it’s straying into political territory.

“As Prince of Wales, he could do that, as monarch he can’t.”

It comes as Burrell earlier this month claimed that Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy will always overshadow King Charles’s reign.

Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy will always overshadow King Charles’s reign, a royal expert has claimed.

According to the former royal butler, 70 years on the throne is “an impossible act to follow” and something the King is well aware of.

He added that if the late monarch’s biography was to be printed right now “it would probably crush the rest of his reign”.

Burrell said: “I think that would be dynamite right now, I think her legacy is still incredibly strong so I would crush the King’s reign because she is an impossible act to follow. There is much that can be said in the Queen’s own words after her passing that would upset the King and Queen.”

The expert suggested Queen Elizabeth’s biography may be written by William Shawcross who wrote the Queen Mother’s biography or “it may be written by a woman”.

But he stressed: “You can bet if it is written it will be edited and redacted by the King so we may never know the real truth.”
