King keeps up Christmas tradition with most of the family there

He and Queen Camilla welcomed around 50 members of the family for their biggest reunion since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September. The only notable absentees were the disaffected Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who live in California.
It was the first time since 2019 the family had been able to gather for the traditional pre-Christmas meal of turkey with all the trimmings.
Last year the Queen called off plans to bring everyone together at Windsor Castle because of Covid-19, and the year before London was in lockdown during the pandemic.
Prince Andrew, the King’s disgraced brother, was thought to be among those invited yesterday.
Other guests are said to have included the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children – Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four.Among those spotted arriving were Princess Anne and husband Sir Tim Laurence, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children, and Zara and Mike Tindall with their children.
On Sunday King Charles will host his first Christmas Day at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
It is expected to include some of Camilla’s family, with her children Tom Parker Bowles, 48, and Laura Lopes, 44, there for the first time.
Andrew, 62, will also be there and his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, 63, for the first time in many years.
But Harry and Meghan, whose relationship with the King is strained – and non-existent with William and Kate – will not be there.
The Royal Family, wearied by constant complaints from the Sussexes, are braced for more allegations from Harry in his forthcoming memoir, Spare, which appears on January 10.
Sources at ITV yesterday said Harry, 38, will do an interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby ahead of the book’s publication. Bradby, a former
ITV royal correspondent, filmed a documentary about Harry and Meghan in Africa, in which the couple made their unhappiness clear.
ITV had been due to film the King’s first Christmas broadcast but it was suddenly switched to the BBC.

The King is anxious to try to maintain a relationship with his younger son and Meghan, but is reluctant for the Royal Family to take the blame for the Sussexes’ decision to quit their royal roles.
