King Charles rose to the helm of Britain following the death of the Queen. Upon the passing of Her Majesty, the then-Prince of Wales automatically became the new sovereign – and later confirmed his regnal name would be King Charles III. Royal commentator Victoria Howard argues that decades of watching the Queen will make King Charles the best monarch Britain has ever had.

When asked how King Charles will rule, Ms Howard said: “Well, he has a great number of years of training.

“He once said that the royals are much like monkeys: they learn by watching their parents.

“So, he’s had 70 years to watch the Queen; learn from her, learn what she does, learnt how she approaches things.

“So, I think he is the best-prepared king we’ve ever had.”

Channel 4’s Matt Frei noted: “But different in tone and style.”

Ms Howard said: “Completely and I don’t expect him to be much like his mother.

“He has a lot of opinions on things. He has shown he is going to dial that back.

“He’ll be the apolitical monarch that he’s expected to be as part of the Constitution.”

As Britain enters a 10-day mourning period, Britons across the nation have been paying their tribute to the Queen.

A state funeral is expected within the next two weeks. After experiencing several health and mobility issues – including testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this year – the Queen died peacefully at her summer residence in Scotland.

Queen Elizabeth II experienced back pain and had knee surgery in the 2000s, Time reports. According to Town & Country, she started using her late husband’s cane after experiencing her first mobility issues in October 2021.

In April, Britons held their breath when the Queen tested positive for coronavirus, which she revealed left her “very tired and exhausted.”

Formal recognition of her successor, King Charles III, will come from the Accession Council, usually convened within 24 hours of the sovereign’s death.

The Council includes members of the Privy Council – historically her Majesty’s most trusted advisers.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will become Queen as instructed by Queen Elizabeth – a reward for her to support Charles and her role as a working royal.
