Following his recent attempt at extending an olive branch to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a royal expert suggests that, upon the new royal era, King Charles may attempt to make regular visits with the couple as reconnecting with them is something that he “very much wants to happen”. Speaking on the latest episode of Royally Us, royal historian Gareth Russell sheds some light on what could happen in the next few weeks for the newly-appointed King Charles.
Speaking to hosts Christina Garibaldi and Christine Ross, Mr Russell said: “I do think the King very much wants to heal the rift with Harry and Meghan.
“We saw that olive branch held out [in] the first national address so maybe we will see attempts to coordinate more regular visits between Harry and Meghan and back to Britain.”
Mr Russell added that “sometimes people forget [that] there was a pandemic and there were travel restrictions” during the first stage of Meghan and Harry’s move to the US.
He also added: “So maybe we will see more frequent visits back.
“I think that is something the King very much wants to happen.”
In the days following the Queen’s death, King Charles addressed the nation for the first time in his brand-new position.

In the speech, he also expressed his love for Prince Harry and Meghan.
He said: “I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”

Meghan and Harry have made two visits to the UK since June.
The couple, along with their two children, visited London to attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
They, however, didn’t attend all events and chose to fly back to the US before the celebrations officially concluded.
During the visit, Charles, then still known as the Prince of Wales, reportedly got to meet his granddaughter, Lilibet for the first time.

This time, they travelled without Archie and Lilibet.
Despite the intention for a short trip, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the couple were forced to extend their visit.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in attendance at Westminster Abbey on September 19 for the late Queen’s state funeral.
