King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort arrived at Belfast City Airport shortly before noon on Tuesday following a flight from Edinburgh and then made their way to Hillsborough for a private audience with Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris.

The royal couple also met with representatives of political parties.

Later, Charles and Camilla will travel to St Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast where they will attend a service of reflection in memory of the late monarch.

The service of reflection at St Anne’s Cathedral is by invitation only.

Huge crowds have gathered in Hillsborough, hoping to get a good view of the new King and his wife Camilla, the new Queen Consort.

During the walkaround in Hillsborough, which is a village and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland, Camilla and Charles met with schoolchildren and corgis in memory of the late Queen’s pets.

Among one of the first royal fans to arrive at the scene, was Sharon Douglas from Carryduff, and sisters Norma McKinney, Vanessa Patten and Rhonda Irvine, from Ballymena, County Antrim.

Norma told the BBC: “We were up at 4am and here at 05:45.

“We wanted to be here early to let him know he’s got our support.

“It’s sad, we want to give him our condolences, but also tell him we’re happy for him.”

When the King entered Hillsborough Castle, there was a gun salute at the royal residence.

A total of 21 rounds, at a rate of six rounds per minute, were fired.

During his visit to the Castle, the Royal Standard flag is expected to be flown.
