King Charles and Camilla delight fans with surprise trip to Northern Ireland

King Charles and Queen Camilla have surprised royal fans by making an unannounced visit to Belfast on Wednesday. The royal couple’s first engagement on their Northern Ireland visit is to the stunning new Coronation Garden at Hazelbank Park in Newtownabbey. The royal couple beamed as they toured the beautiful trees and blooms, which even features dancing trees and the King remarked he had “slight anxiety” during one part of the tour.

Crowds cheered as the King and Queen arrived at Hazelbank Park in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim where they officially opened the new Coronation Garden.

During the stop-off, the King and Queen met with the designers of the garden as well as representatives of community and charitable organisations.

They were told the special garden in honour of their coronation marks the beginning of a new green initiative for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

At one point the King said he has “slight anxiety” as he peered gingerly over the balcony of the garden structure. Camilla didn’t brave the edge however, and stayed a pace or two behind.

Camilla is dressed in a stunning mint green dress with a matching scarf, while Charles is smart in a blue suit and tie.

Eagle-eyed fans also suggested she may be wearing Queen Elizabeth II’s Emerald and Diamond Celtic Knot Brooch.

The late monarch wore it at the state banquet for the president of Ireland in 2014.

It marks Charles and Camilla’s first trip since their Coronation, which was held just a few weeks ago in a splendid ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

They last visited Northern Ireland in the days following the late Queen Elizabeth’s death last September where they attended a Service of Reflection at St Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast on September 13.
