King and Queen arrive in Cornwall to mark special anniversary of Tate St Ives

King Charles and Queen Camilla have arrived in Cornwall for a special visit to mark the 30th anniversary of Tate St Ives, where they undertook two joint engagements together, before Her Majesty embarked on a solo visit.

During the visit, the royal couple had a tour of the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, which offers a glimpse into the work of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

The museum, which is located where Barbara Hepworth lived for more than two decades, is situated in the heart of the Cornish town and has been cared for by Tate since 1980.

Their Majesties were hosted by the Chairman of Tate, Roland Rudd and Anne Barlow, who is the Director of Tate St Ives.

The couple also had a chance to meet the late artist’s granddaughter, Dr Sophie Bowness.

Head Gardener Jodi Dickinson, whose career in horticulture was supported by the Prince’s Trust, showed the royal couple around the garden grounds.

During the visit, the couple also met with some of the young people from the Tate Collective Programme, all of whom work to arrange events and workshops in the museum.

Key figures from the artistic community of St Ives were present to meet Their Majesties.

The town is known for its artistic community, having produced Hepworth in the 1950s as well as forthcoming future talent.

Following their visit to the museum, the King and Queen then paid a visit to St Ives Harbour.

During this part of the engagement, the royal couple met members of the Cornish community.

They got a chance to hear the choristers of Truro Cathedral as they arrived, some of whom were in attendance at their Coronation back in May.
