Keir Starmer FINALLY turns on Corbyn blaming his leadership for Labour’s election defeat

Due to Mr Corbyn, Sir Keir said the leadership of the party was constantly questioned by voters. As a result of Mr Corbyn and the party’s Brexit policy, former Labour heartlands in the Midlands and the north voted for Mr Johnson. After winning the leadership of the party, Sir Keir has moved to remove some of Mr Corbyn’s closest allies.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Sir Keir admitted Labour voters had turned away from the party due to Mr Corbyn.

Sir Keir said: “The topic of conversation was always what was coming up.

“Anybody who knocks on doors knows a number of things came up.

“The leadership of the Labour party was the number one reason, fair or unfair.”

In order to change the party, Sir Keir has removed pro-Corbyn supporter Richard Burgeon (former Shadow Secretary of State for Justice) from the Shadow Cabinet.

Rebecca Long-Bailey, who ran for party leadership has also been changed to Secretary of State for Education after serving as Shadow Secretary of State for Business.

Former Shadow Lord President of the Council, Jon Trickett and former Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade, Barry Gardiner were both also removed.

Diane Abbott, the former Shadow Home Secretary also stood down from the shadow cabinet while John McDonnell has indicated he will step away.

In keeping with the exodus of supporters of his predecessor, Labour’s general secretary, Jennie Fornby has stood down from her position.

Away from the purge of pro-Corbyn supporters, Sir Keir also claimed there was too much in the party’s manifesto.

Amid pledges of £300billion worth of shares to workers, nationalisation of several industries and plans for an extra £83billion of tax and spending.

Due to that, Sir Keir insisted the manifesto was “overloaded” and not believable.

Taking on the Government, Sir Keir has also criticised the lack of PPE which has been sent to NHS workers.

He has also questioned Mr Johnson on how the UK has one of the highest death rates in the world.

He said: “I think the government has been slow in pretty well all of the major decisions.

“It was slow into lockdown.

“They were slow with testing and are still slow with testing, slow with complete PPE and I fear they are going to be slow on an exit strategy. “

Such has been Sir Keir’s impact on the party, the BBC’s, Andrew Neil has stated Labour now has a measured and informed leader.
