‘Keep cashing cheques’ Meghan and Harry’s private christening is WRONG -Express.co.uk poll

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have sparked fury after they revealed their decision to deny members of the public to watch their son’s baptism and have even refused to reveal the identity of Archie Harrison’s godparents. And now an overwhelming 82 percent (2,566) of Express.co.uk readers said Meghan and Prince Harry are wrong to keep details private.

This was compared to 16 percent (511) of readers who said ‘yes’ when asked “are Meghan and Harry right to keep Archie’s christening private?”.

Express.co.uk commenters reflected the results of the poll as they attacked the couple over their demands for privacy despite using £2.4million of taxpayers money to refurbish their home, Frogmore Cottage.

One said: “The British people have loved and supported PH since the day of his birth. What a way to pay them back for all those years. Oh yes, and keep cashing those cheques.”

Another said: “They can be as private as they like if they stick to private funding only – if any public money (security etc) is involved then it becomes a public matter

One added: “They are picking and choosing things in the hope of getting more popular I think it is going to backfire on them as people are not that interested.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been heavily criticised after Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the family would hold their christening in “private” on Saturday.

Royal critics have warned the royal couple “they can’t have it both ways” after their decision not to reveal the identity of Archie Harrison’s godparents because they are private citizens rather than public figures.

The statement read: “Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday July 6.

“The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private.”

Archie Harrison will be baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The couple’s royal wedding photographer Chris Allerton will take photos of the family of three on the day.

Some of Mr Allerton’s pictures will be released following the private ceremony.

The Express.co.uk poll of 3,158 readers ran from on 1.04pm on Monday to 10am on Thursday.
