Kate’s ‘obsession’ with high street shop that’s behind her affordable royal look

There’s no doubt about it: Princess Kate is a style icon.

And that’s why when she heads out in a high street brand, the item sells out in record time – her look becoming instantly accessible and affordable.

This weekend the Princess of Wales, 41, once again donned her beloved white Zara jacket at the Rugby World Cup qualifiers to cheer on England against Fiji in Marseille.

She also wore the boucle blazer – that’s currently on the Zara website priced at £65.99 – in March this year when she met Iceland chairman Richard Walker to promote the importance of early childhood.

It wasn’t the first time she’d been seen wearing the gold-buttoned garment: and it’s definitely not the first time she’s opted to wear something from high street fashion brand Zara.

She wore a very similar blazer in red on a visit to Copenhagen in 2022 and a cobalt blue Zara blazer earlier this month to visit SportsAid mental fitness workshop in Marlow.

As well as her penchant for Zara blazers, she’s also been spotted in dresses and skirts from the brand.

Her houndstooth Zara skirt was £20 and a leopard print skirt she wore sold out in hours with a mega cheap price tag of just £9.99.

Kate has been criticised for opting for brands such as Zara as it promotes fast fashion rather than taking a more sustainable approach.

But the princess has defied her critics by re-wearing her Zara faves many times over.

Celebrity stylist and fashion expert Miranda Holder told Express.co.uk that “Kate is pretty much damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t when it comes to her fashion choices”.

She continued: “One moment she is splashing too much of the public’s purse, then next moment she is championing fast fashion, despite it being a far more affordable option for the rest of us.

“Her Zara obsession isn’t in my opinion the best of decisions.”

The expert continued: “I suppose the advantage of Zara is that it is available in almost every country globally, which keeps Kate’s fashion appeal truly international.”

She added: “In my opinion, a better move, both for the economy and Kate’s reputation, would be for her to champion some more homegrown sustainable but affordable British brands which would give the UK and the Princess a boost.”
