Princess Diana was popular amongst royal fans in the US and remains one of the most beloved royal figures to this day. According to Majesty magazine’s editor-in-chief Ingrid Seward, Kate, the Princess of Wales appears to be following in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law in her popularity overseas as Kate and Prince William get ready for their US visit next week.

Ms Seward told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: “To my understanding, the Americans I know, which is quite a few, they all love the Princess of Wales.”

Clarifying that she was meaning Kate, Ms Seward stated that the Americans also “adored” Diana.

They added that “no-one would replace” Diana, but they do “love” Kate.

She added: “They think she’s absolutely gorgeous and she’s a Princess.”

The editor-in-chief added: “To them, Meghan isn’t a Princess.”

Diana died in August 1997, when her eldest son William was just 15.

Her tragic death, aged just 36, meant that she never got to meet both of her daughters-in-law.

Earlier this week, Kate paid tribute to the late Princess by wearing Diana’s “favourite” tiara at her first state banquet as the Princess of Wales.

Kate donned the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara as she joined William, and more than 160 guests, for a glamorous evening at Buckingham Palace in honour of the South African president.

The diamond and pearl-encrusted headpiece was given to Diana by the late Queen as a wedding gift in July 1981.

Kate and William are due to travel to the US at the start of December.

A source exclusively revealed in the latest issue of Us Weekly that Kate and William are “excited” to be visiting the US for the first time in eight years.

The source also revealed that the Prince and Princess of Wales are “hoping to boost their royal profile across the pond” with their visit to Boston for the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit.

William and Kate first visited the United States in 2011, in one of the first tours they undertook as a married couple, travelling across California at the tail-end of a two-week tour to North America.

They returned in December 2014 for a three-day visit to the east coast, touching down in New York and meeting with then-President Barack Obama at the White House.
