The Duchess of Cambridge has been “reaching out” to her sister-in-law Meghan Markle over the last few weeks, in a bid to heal the rift between the Sussex couple and the Royal Family. Prince William is set to be reunited with his brother Prince Harry later today for the unveiling of a statue in their mother’s memory.

A source told Us Weekly “Kate has been reaching out to Meghan a lot more since Lilibet was born, she’s sending notes and gifts and trying to build up a relationship.”

“The Firm has been instructing staffers to reach out more to Harry and Meghan to get them to soften a bit.”

Relations between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Harry and Meghan have been strained since the couple announced they would be stepping back as senior members of the Royal Family.

The couple later relocated to California and have openly spoken about their time as working royals.

During a tell-all interview with Oprah in March, the couple criticised both members of the Royal Family and the institution as a whole.

Prince Harry characterised his relationship with Prince William as “space” and said they were on “very different paths”.

Meghan Markle also spoke about her complicated relationship with her sister-in-law, blaming the British press for increasing tensions.

She said, “If you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t have to hate me.”

She also corrected the story that she had made Kate cry in the lead-up to the royal wedding in 2018.

Whilst it had been widely reported that Meghan had upset Kate in a spat over a flower girl dress for Princess Charlotte, Meghan told Oprah that the opposite had happened.

Meghan later said Kate had “owned it” and apologised to her, bringing her flowers and a note.

Other revelations in the interview included the couple’s mental health being neglected by Buckingham Palace and a senior member of the Royal Family making a racist comment about the skin colour of their unborn child.

The couple’s interview with Oprah, along with Prince Harry’s later interviews, were said to have ‘deeply upset’ the Queen.

Kate’s efforts at reconciliation come as Prince Harry returns to the UK to unveil a statue in Princess Diana’s memory.

To honour what would have been their mother’s 60th birthday, Prince William and Prince Harry are unveiling a new statue in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace.

It will be the first time the brothers have reunited since the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip in April.
