One year ago, Kate unveiled her concept garden Back To Nature at the Chelsea Flower Show. The Duchess of Cambridge marked this anniversary by sharing on Twitter a rare snap showing Kate rolling up her sleeves to help first-hand with the creation of her project.

In the picture, Kate is wearing a loose grey blouse, blue jeans and grey trainers.

Her hair is gathered in a loose ponytail and the hands are protected by gardening gloves.

Kate’s concept garden united her passion for the great outdoors and the proven benefits for both children and adults nature have on physical and mental health.

To design this concept garden, the Duchess collaborated with landscape architects Davies White, who helped Kate bring to life elements of her childhood and what she knew her children would have loved.

Before unveiling the garden, Kate and Prince William brought Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to the Chelsea Flower Show, where the little Cambridges were left free to play and roam around.

The concept garden was later visited also by the Queen, who looked delighted as Kate and Prince William showed her around the creation.

The Back To Nature garden was moved in September to its permanent home, Wisley Gardens near Woking, Surrey.

In her most recent tweet, Kate invited gardening fans to visit the first-ever edition of the Chelsea Flower Show.

The coronavirus pandemic and the Government lockdown made it impossible for the show to carry on as usual.

However, organisers were able to create an alternative event which allows online visitors to receive practical gardening advice from designers and experts and admire some of the most beautiful flower creations in the country.

The Queen, who as patron of the Royal Horticultural Society, has been visiting the Chelsea Flower Show every year over the past decades.

Yesterday, unable like any other Briton to see the show in person, the monarch praised the event’s organisers for being able to adapt to the current circumstances.

She wrote in a statement: “On the occasion of the Opening of the Virtual Chelsea Flower Show 2020, I send my best wishes to all those associated with the Royal Horticultural Society.

“My family and I have always enjoyed visiting the Show, and I know that your Members and Supporters will be disappointed that they are unable to attend in person this year.

“As Patron of the Royal Horticultural Society, I was pleased to hear that you will be providing gardening advice and virtual sessions on your website, from Monday 18th to Saturday 23rd May.

“As you adapt to the present circumstances, I hope you find this unique event enjoyable and interesting.”

The Royal Family is closely linked with the Chelsea Flower Show, as the Queen recalled in her statement.

She added: “I am sure that my grandmother, Queen Mary, who first attended the Chelsea Flower Show in 1916, would be delighted that many people today have an enthusiasm for horticulture and that gardening remains a popular past time in the United Kingdom.”
