Kate reveals how she boosts George, Charlotte and Louis’s wellbeing – ‘Come rain or shine’
Kate revealed she “drags outside” her three children every day, come “rain or shine”, to improve their creativity, physical and mental wellbeing. The Duchess of Cambridge, who is an outspoken advocate of the benefits nature has on people of all ages, explained how she wants little George, Charlotte and Louis to spend every day at least 10 minutes in the open air. As she was getting her hands dirty by playing with children in the wild during yesterday’s episode of Blue Peter, Kate said: “Rain or shine, they’re dragged outside. It’s great.
“It encourages creativity, confidence and even a short amount of time – 10 or 15 minutes – makes a huge difference to physical wellbeing but also to our mental wellbeing.”
During her appearance on the CBBC show, Kate took part in three outdoor activities with presenter Lindsey Russell and local schoolchildren at Westminster City Council’s Paddington Recreation Ground.
Looking relaxed and at ease with her sleeves rolled up and a simple ponytail, Kate grabbed a net to look for tadpoles and newts in a pond and also did some planting.
The Duchess also showed her competitive side as she led a team of little builders to victory in a den-building contest.
When asked if she had ever built one, the royal said: “I love it but I’m in your hands.”
Kate later complimented her winning team, saying: “You did an amazing job finding everything and you did it seriously quickly.”
And, looking enthusiast when she received a badge marking her success, she told children: “Thank you so much, look at that! You should be so proud, well done all of you.
“It’s been a real honour to meet everybody, I’ve learned a lot today.”
The Duchess has been actively working towards instilling the love of nature in children by creating her ‘Back to Nature’ concept garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
The woodland garden, inaugurated in May and created with the help of landscape architects Andree Davies and Adam White, has been “inspired by childhood memories and with families in mind” and featured a tree house, a rope swing, a den and a campfire.
Kate’s three children and her husband Prince William were seen spending time together in her garden before its launch, with Kensington Palace releasing sweet snaps of the children playing on the swing, building a bow and running around barefoot.
Her concept garden, which is to be relocated to RHS Wisley in September, will receive the winning entry of a contest for children to design a sculpture she launched during Blue Peter.
