Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge joined the Royal Family after nearly ten years as a girlfriend to Prince William. After what was reported to be a cold start to the relationship with the young woman, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall presented her stepdaughter-in-law with a special piece of jewelry to welcome her into the Royal Family. The Duchess had herself experienced the pressure of becoming a royal when her relationship with Prince Charles was revealed.
Regardless of her less than warm welcome in the family, it was widely speculated that Camilla did not approve of William and Kate’s relationship in the beginning.
Present for the on-again, off-again periods, it was reported that Camilla urged William to “reconsider the marriage altogether.”
By the time the pair were engaged, Camilla welcomed Kate with open arms and reportedly gave her a special gift on her wedding day.
Christine-Marie Liwag Dixon reported about the pair’s relationship on The List’s YouTube channel.

Ms Liwag-Dixon said: “Camilla reportedly showed her support of Kate, and by extension William, by gifting her a special piece of jewelry and treating her to a pre-wedding lunch.”
“It’s clear that when things got really serious, Camilla was more than happy to show William how much she liked Kate overall.”
William and Kate had met in 2001, when they were students in residence at St Salvator’s Hall at the University of St Andrews.
The pair became close, but they reportedly didn’t start dating until 2003.

They moved in together with friends during their second year at St Andrews, along with two other friends.
Years later, William reflected upon the early days in their engagement interview.
He said: “We moved in together as friends because we were living together, we lived with a couple of others as well.”
“It just sort of blossomed from there really.”

Kate admitted that William would cook her “fancy dinners,” in a bid to impress his future wife.
She said: “He did cook for me quite a bit at university, and he would always come with a bit of angst and a bit of anger if something had gone wrong, and I would have to wander in and save something that was going.”
They later married in 2011.
