Kate Middleton’s uncle Gary Goldsmith has unloaded on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in a dramatic interview with Australian TV. Speaking to Australia’s 60 Minutes on Sunday night, Mr Goldsmith delivered a damning verdict of the couple who quit the Royal Family and moved to California. He also stood by his previous remarks that Harry and Meghan were “muppets” and he did not believe “a lot of things” the couple said during the Oprah interview.

In March, Mr Goldsmith hit headlines after he posted a message on social media branding Harry and Meghan “muppets craving attention” in the wake of the Oprah Winfrey interview.

He pleaded with them to let Britons get on with “saving lives” during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

When asked about the previous remarks, the 55-year-old brother to Kate’s mother Carole refused to apologise, saying: “I’m embarrassed about doing it but I stand by it.

“I’m just very disappointed with them and there’s a whole nation that’s massively disappointed with them.”

He continued: “We all love Harry, the whole world loves Harry.

“But you just don’t do what they did and then go on Oprah and talk like that.

“It’s just not the way the world works.”

Reporter Tom Steinfort said: “Some people thought that Meghan threw Kate under the bus by highlighting that it was Kate who made Meghan cry before the wedding.

“What did you think of her dredging up that old incident in the Oprah interview?”

Mr Goldsmith said: “I don’t believe a word of it, if I’m honest.

“Kate would always be the peacemaker in those situations. I think we saw at the funeral for Prince Philip that Kate is always trying to make peace and she always does.

“There were a lot of things in that interview I didn’t believe and that was one of them.”

He agreed that because Meghan “has drawn so much controversy,” by comparison “she has made Kate look even better”.

This comes amid Harry’s latest swipes at the Royal Family during his appearance on The Me You Can’t See, his TV series about mental health.

He told Oprah that he felt “bullied” by the royals and accused them of “total neglect”.

Since being Stateside, the Duke has spoken about his difficulties with members of his family in a number of media appearances.

Just months after this landmark Oprah Winfrey interview alongside his wife Meghan, Harry further opened up about his childhood in a candid conversation with Dax Shepard on his podcast, The Armchair Expert.
