Eagle-eyed fans of the royals spotted Kate’s secret message while she was attending an event with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. It was a rare engagement for the trio who are rarely seen without Prince William in tow. Royal fans believe Kate’s outfit choice was used to pre-empt the Queen’s announcement about Camilla.

On February 3, Prince Charles, Camilla and Kate visited the Trinity Buoy Wharf in London which is run by the Prince’s Foundation to learn about textile making.

For the royal engagement, Kate wore her grey Catherine Walker dress, which she only wore once before.

The Duchess last publicly wore the ensemble during a visit with the Queen in 2019 and this is what royal fans believe was the subtle hint to the Queen’s announcement that Camilla will be Queen Consort.

One royal fan wrote on Instagram: “Does this mean that Kate made the appearance and wore the grey dress again with Camilla that she last wore with the Queen to a very subtle hint at the announcement about Camilla being Queen Consort?”

In response to the theory about the dress, another fan wrote: “It’s not the first time she’s worn grey with Camilla and Charles.

“And the first time she wore this coat was when she accompanied the Queen on an engagement.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence if that makes sense.”

It is increasingly common to see the Duchess recycling her previously worn outfits and upcycling them with new accessories.

The Queen, 95 used the momentous day of her accession to the throne to honour the Duchess of Cornwall and reveal her wishes for the future of the monarchy.

A source told People.com that Prince Charles was waiting for this announcement for quite some time as he wished for his coronation to include his wife by his side as Queen though the plans for the day do not begin until the accession to the throne.

A royal insider said: “They couldn’t wait until Charles was actually King – it has to come from the Queen herself.

“Now was a good time because of the Jubilee – it was almost tailor-made for this timing.”

In a statement from Sandringham House, the Queen announced that “in the fullness of time” Charles would step up to be monarch and it was her “sincere wish” that Camilla would be referred to as Queen Consort.

She added: “I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection you continue to give me.

“And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla that same support that you have given me.”

“It is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

The title of Queen Consort is traditionally given to the wife of the reigning monarch, while ‘Queen’ is reserved only for the reigning female monarch.
