Kate Middleton’s heartbreaking dreams for split charity revealed
Kate is a patron of the charity originally set up by brothers William and Harry in 2009, called The Royal Foundation. She joined the trust upon her marriage to William in 2011, as did Meghan when she wed Harry in 2018. However, cracks soon began to show between the couples earlier this year, when Harry and Meghan announced in the summer that they would be leaving the charity. They plan to set up their own, called Sussex Royal, which would have more international ambitions in comparison to The Royal Foundation.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided to stay on the original trust.
The first – and to date, only – joint interview featuring both couples, who were dubbed the ‘Fab Four’, aired in February 2018 and took place at the Royal Foundation’s annual forum.
Interviewer Tina Daheley asked Kate what she is most excited about in terms of the Foundation’s future, which led Kate to make a very revealing confession about her hopes for the future of the family trust.
She replied: “There’s a lot I’m hugely excited with the foundation. We mentioned before about working together, looking at William as well, with some long-term prospects.
“Imagine if we were able to do some Heads Together campaign with another generation of members of the Royal Family.”
At the time of the interview, Kate was pregnant with her third child, Prince Louis. He was born in April 2018.
Her two other children, six-year-old Prince George and four-year-old Princess Charlotte, are third and fourth in line to the throne respectively.
Heads Together was the campaign launched by Harry, William and Kate which focused on promoting the conversation surrounding mental health. It was set up in 2017 and was perceived to have made a huge impact nationwide.
Kate continued: “I think that’s so exciting to think with so many more of us working together on the same cause or similar causes, we could make a real impact.”
Meghan and Harry had their first child in May this year, and named him Archie-Harrison Mountbatten Windsor. However, they have since made it clear they would like him to be raised as a “private citizen”.
It is unclear at the moment exactly what that will mean for Archie’s lifestyle, but it is suggested that he will take on fewer royal responsibilities as a result.
During the 2017 interview, Kate continued to explain exactly why helping children is a key part of her charitable work.
She said: “I would say for me personally I am really interested in keeping going with the mental health element, focusing on early years, early intervention, looking at how early we can go back to the next generation to help break the cycle.
“And also looking at how to support parents and families bring up the next generation of mentally happy and well children and helping them, if I have the tools as well, to cope with the challenges of modern-day family and parenthood.”
Ms Daheley then asked: “How do your own experiences feed into that? Because I know those issues that you mentioned – early intervention, coping with Parenthood, supporting the next generation of mothers – are issues that are very close to your heart.”

The Duchess of Cambridge said: “Absolutely, I’ve learned a huge amount, firstly from the patronages but also the experts I met along the way and you can’t help but reflect on then your own life.
“It’s definitely had an impact on how I mother, how we work as a family and how we hope to bring up our children, and I’ve learnt so much and you know, if some of this knowledge and some of the facts and figures I’ve learned along the way could be passed onto the general public, I think that will be hugely beneficial to all mothers and parents out there.”
The charity split is just the latest sign which royal spectators have considered an indication of a fallout between the couples.
Earlier in the year, Harry and Meghan announced their sudden decision to move out of the Kensington Palace estate, where they lived with Kate and William, even though reports say they had only just redecorated their apartment.
However, Vanity Fair reported in June that this split was down to the couples’ different ambitions and duties, as William is second in line to the throne and therefore is expected to take on greater responsibility with his royal duties.
There are also suggestions that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would like to move abroad with their charity. They recently went on a tour to Southern Africa, a move which was rumoured to show the pair laying some groundwork for their future charitable endeavours.
The pair will also be attending the WellChild Awards in London this week to praise the bravery of seriously ill children.
The event is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, one of the four charities Meghan and Harry asked people to donate to instead of purchasing gifts when Archie was born.
