Kate Middleton uses ‘very clever’ ploy learned from Princess Diana to win over UK public

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge has emerged as one of the most popular members of the Royal Family since she married Prince William. As the couple welcomed their three children, the Duchess of Cambridge began to adapt a key lesson left over from Princess Diana to win over the support of the public, according to commentator Neil Sean. Speaking to Australia’s Today Show, the royal expert said: “If you remember, when Princess Diana was with us what she did was very clever.

“She sort of made sure that William and Harry had normal lives if you like. There was a very famous picture of them queuing in McDonald’s in Kensington and then there was the other picture of them at funfairs and amusement parks.

“Well, Kate has done the same thing, she has taken the same route.”

The Duchess of Cambridge is known to have a hands-on approach to raising her three children – Prince George, 6, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1 – and has been spotted on several occasions on routine outings with the youngsters.

The commentator suggested having the children live a normal life “endears” both Kate and William to the country, and helps the Royal Family “modernise” as younger members adopt a lifestyle the public can identify with.

Mr Sean continued: “According to a royal source, she wants her children to experience the reality of life.

“There was actually a picture of Kate shopping for Halloween treats with George and Charlotte in a local supermarket near to where they were staying.

“This really endears people not just to William and Catherine but to the Royal Family in general.”

He added: “Although people weren’t allowed to take pictures, you’ve got to appreciate – and I think Kate is very clever at this – that the Royal Family has to modernise.

“By that, they have to get within the people, and I think that’s a good trade Diana has given to William who passed it on to Catherine.”

The Duchess of Cambridge has recently been praised for being “relatable” and down to earth” after she escorted George and Charlotte to their first football match and as she was spotted at the self-checkout tills in Sainsbury’s buying her three children Halloween costumes.

The Duke and Duchess have been counting on the help and support of professionally-trained nanny Maria Borrallo since the birth of Prince George in 2013.

But Kate has reportedly insisted to play a major role in her children’s lives to ensure they do not grow up in a “gilded bubble”.

Speaking to The Sun, a royal insider said: “Kate has always wanted the children to live in the real world – she and William don’t want them to live in a gilded bubble.

“They want them to grow up having the same experience as other kids.”

The source echoed Mr Sean as they claimed Princess Diana has played a significant role in helping the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shape their approach to parenthood.

They continued: “Kate is mindful of how much William loved his mother. She was very unstuffy and wanted William and Harry to fit in with their school friends and experience normality.

“That’s the baton she handed to Kate.”
