Princess Mary is married to Crown Prince Frederik, the heir apparent to the Danish throne. The royal couple are coming to London to cheer on the Danish national team, as they take on the mighty Three Lions on Wednesday for a place in the final of Euro 2020. The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, was forced to go into isolation for 10 days on Friday, after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19.

Kensington Palace said that she had tested negative for the virus and was “not experiencing any symptoms”.

Palace sources also confirmed that Prince William, 39, would be at the eagerly anticipated match in his role as President of The Football Association.

Princess Mary, 49, was born in Australia to Scottish parents.

She met her future husband at a pub in Sydney, when the Crown Prince was visiting Australia during the 2000 Olympics.

Kate and Mary’s friendship goes back to November 2011, when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Denmark.

As part of the official visit, William and Kate toured a UNICEF factory, where they helped to pack emergency care boxes.

The last time the two women met up was at Royal Ascot in June 2016, where they attended an engagement.

Crown Princess Mary and her husband will travel to the game from the south of France, where they are currently on holiday.

The royal couple have been staying at the Château de Cayx, near Cahors, which has been in the possession of Denmark’s Queen since 1974.

Mary and Frederik are able to attend the match as they will be not be required to quarantine on entering the UK.

This has provoked criticism from the Danish media, which has pointed out that thousands of ordinary Danish football fans have been forced to stay at home to watch the game.

In an opinion piece for his newspaper Ekstra Bladet, editor Henrik Qvortrup wrote that “blue blood gives immunity in all respects”.

However, the Danish Royal Family insisted that it was “completely natural” that it “represents Denmark” at the match.
