Kate Middleton reveals her surprising method of curing pregnancy morning sickness

In an unprecedented admission during a motherhood podcast, Kate got deeply personal and revealed how she coped with the pains of childhood and labour. It is uncommon for a member of the royal family to be so candid in their conversation, yet Kate shared tips for alleviating the pain of childbirth, and how mothers-to-be can enjoy the process.

She was interviewed by Giovanna Fletcher, who hosts the podcast, “Happy Mum, Happy Baby”, which looks to encourage others to share their struggles in the hope of sparking a nationwide conversation about how to bring up the next generation.

Asked whether she had used hypnobirthing, Kate admitted to having taken several classes.

Pregnant mothers use hypnobirthing as a means of learning breathing and mindfulness techniques in preparation for childbirth.

The Duchess said she learned the power of controlling her breathing to combat severe morning sickness which left her hospitalised.

She said: “It was through hyperemesis that I really realised the power of the mind over the body because I really had to try everything and everything to try and help me through it.

The pair discussed whether it was “hippy dippy” and Kate said there are “levels of it”.

She added: “I’m not going to say that William was standing there sort of, chanting sweet nothings at me.

“He definitely wasn’t!

“I didn’t even ask him about it, but it was just something I wanted to do for myself.

“I saw the power of it really, the meditation and the deep breathing and things like that – that they teach you in hypnobirthing – when I was really sick and actually I realised that this was something I could take control of, I suppose, during labour.

“It was hugely powerful and because it had been so bad during pregnancy, I actually really quite liked labour!

“Because actually it was an event that I knew there was going to be an ending to!

“But I know some people do have really, really difficult times, and it’s not for everybody.”

She also shared her favourite photo of Princess Charlotte during the podcast, explaining that the image demonstrates the “physical and mental wellbeing” that children enjoy when immersed in their natural surroundings.

The picture shows Charlotte delicately smelling a bluebell on a bright spring day while exploring the grounds of Anmer Hall, the Cambridge’s country house in Norfolk.

Of the photo, Kate said: “As children, we spent a lot of time outside and it’s something I’m really passionate about.

“I think it’s so great for physical and mental wellbeing and laying those foundations.

“I’ve got this one photo of Charlotte smelling a bluebell, and it’s moments like that which mean so much to me as a parent.

“I try everyday to put moments like that in even if I don’t have time.

“But, that in an ideal world is what I would like to do.”

With her hair tied back in a ponytail, Charlotte sports a check Amaia Kids skirt under a grey cashmere cardigan.

The photo, only recently released, is thought to have been taken to mark the Princess’s fourth birthday last May.
