The Duchess of Cambridge and her health issues during her pregnancy have been well documented, and with speculation mounting she may wish to have her fourth child soon, reports on her previous children have re-emerged. But in one worrying moment, Kate’s husband William “sprung into action and drove his wife along with their personal security team 50 miles in their Range Rover to the hospital where Kate was placed on an IV drip”. At the time, it had just been announced Kate was expecting her first child – who will one day go on to take over the throne – so reports of the Duchess going into hospital worried the public.
Moving to soften fears, a spokesman from St James’s Palace said Kate was “continuing to feel better” as she received treatment in hospital.
He added: “She and the Duke are immensely grateful for the good wishes they have received.
“She will remain in hospital at present and will continue to be treated for hyperemesis gravidarum.”
Hyperemesis gravidarum is an acute form of morning sickness, which is incredibly rare in women – and is often a sign that the mother is expecting twins.
It often arises around the nine-week mark in a pregnancy, and experts say that it is usually resolved by week 16.
Yet, William was so concerned that he took Kate from her parents’ house in Bucklebury after she started experiencing severe morning sickness symptoms.
Insiders within the Royal Family were concerned that Kate’s appearance in hospital would spark pregnancy claims within the media, so they made the announcement before she arrived.
An ABC report in 2012 said that the “Royal Family was only notified of Kate’s pregnancy mere hours before the rest of the world”.
JUST IN: Kate Middleton’s ‘significant’ meeting sign of things to come
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, explained the Royal Family would have preferred to have waited as Kate at the time was less than two-and-a-half months pregnant.
She told ‘Good Morning America’: “Well they didn’t want to let it out because she’s still probably about the 10-week mark but they knew that once Kate was seen going into the hospital… that it was going to be out of their hands and then the media would have control of the announcement.”
It comes amid further speculation about the Cambridges potentially welcoming a fourth baby to join George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Bookmaker Coral has made it odds on, at 4-5, that the couple will announce they are expecting at some point in 2020.

The firm’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “There’ve been plenty of times during 2020 that we’ve thought a baby announcement was on the way from Kate and Wills and we do still make it odds on that it comes before the year is out.”
Kate further excited royal fans after discussing how much she adores being a parent while on podcast ‘Happy Baby, Happy Mum’ earlier this year.
She told the broadcast that she believed all mothers suffer from “mum guilt”, and that “anyone who doesn’t as a mother is lying”.
The royal added: “There’s such a pull, but I am such a hands-on mum, and whatever you’re doing you want to make sure you’re doing the uttermost best job you can for your children.”
