Kate Middleton ‘not a fan of birthdays’ after William threw exclusive tea party

Kate Middleton ‘guided by William’ with podcast says expert

The Duchess of Cambridge turned 39 on Saturday and celebrated in lockdown with the Duke, 38, and their three children Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two. The family are staying at Anmer Hall in Norfolk for the lockdown, and Kate was thrown a surprise party, although most of the family could, of course, not attend. Usually, Kate holds a shooting party for her birthday, but instead it was just the five of them, while other family members sent birthday wishes to the Duchess via social media.

Usually, Kate holds a shooting party for her birthday, but instead it was just the five of them, while other family members sent birthday wishes to the Duchess via social media.

However, it has now emerged that Kate actually does not like big birthday celebrations anyway.

Two years ago, the Duchess decided to celebrate privately and had a similar tea party at Kensington Palace.

She spent the day at the Palace with baby Louis and Charlotte, who was at nursery school at the time.

Meanwhile, George was at school and William on an official engagement visiting the Air Ambulance Service in London.

He had just been named the new patron of the organisation’s 30th anniversary campaign.

Despite reports he would miss part of Kate’s special day, he was thankfully back in time for tea.

A source told Vanity Fair at the time: “Kate’s not into big birthday celebrations, but George and Charlotte adore birthday cake, so there will be a special tea party at the Palace with candles and presents.”

Perhaps it is for this reason that Kate was happy to let someone else take the limelight on her birthday 10 years ago.

In 2011, Kate spent the weekend of her birthday at the wedding of her and William’s friends Harry Aubrey-Fletcher and Sarah Louise Stourton.

In 2012, Kate kept it simple for her 30th birthday, which was also her first birthday as a member of the Royal Family.

A Palace aide said: “[She] had a quiet gathering with family and friends on Monday evening.

“The dinner was held within private quarters at one of the properties situated by their home at Kensington Palace.”

The following year, Kate was pregnant with Prince George and battling severe morning sickness.

She had to spend some time in hospital but weeks before her 31st birthday.

She was expected to stay home due to this, but actually marked the occasion by going to see a Cirque du Soleil show, Kooza at the Royal Albert Hall.

Kate enjoyed the performance from the Royal Box with William, her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and her siblings James and Pippa.

Kate’s birthday in 2014 was her first as a mother, and she spent the day privately with her family at Anmer Hall, where she and William chose to raise George in the earliest years of his life.

Later that month, Kate and George jetted to the island of Mustique with the Middletons while William remained in the UK to study.

The following year, the Duchess was pregnant again, this time with Princess Charlotte, and celebrated quietly at their newly renovated Anmer Hall home.

For her 34th birthday, much like the other years, Kate celebrated quietly in private with her family.

In 2017, Kate celebrated again at Anmer Hall although it would be the last one in Norfolk for a while as the family relocated to London, where George started school.

The following year, Kate was pregnant with Prince Louis and again marked the occasion out of the spotlight.

They had a little celebration once George and Charlotte returned home from school and nursery.

Charlotte had just enrolled at Willcocks Nursery School just a few days prior.

In this way, Kate has not had a huge celebration in the entire decade she has been married to William and, given her attitude towards birthdays, this probably will not change.
