Kate Middleton in Diana snub as Duchess to reject Princess of Wales title ‘as Camilla did’
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge received several titles when she married Prince William in 2011, including the style of Countess of Strathearn when she is in Scotland and Lady Carrickfergus when in Northern Ireland. As the wife of the second-in-line to the throne, Kate can expect to receive further titles when William advances on the succession line but she may refuse to take on the name of Princess of Wales once held by Princess Diana. Royal expert Imogen Llyod-Webber told People Now: “At the moment, if you met Kate, you would call her Your Royal Highness first and then you’d call her ma’am.
“At some moment, William is going to become Prince of Wales. At that moment there’s the question, is Kate going to choose to be called Princess of Wales?
“Camilla is actually Princess of Wales but, because of Diana, she opted to be the Duchess of Cornwall.”
The Duchess of Cornwall opted not to be known as Princess of Wales due to the great love of the public feels towards the late Princess Diana, favouring instead one of here secondary titles.
Kate may choose to become the next Duchess of Cornwall or to take on the style of either Duchess of Rothesay or Countess of Chester. The Duchess of Cambridge may however choose to pay a touching tribute to Diana and be known as the Princess of Wales.

Ms Llyod-Weber continued: “When William is Prince of Wales, if you met Kate, you’d still call her Your Royal Highness and then ma’am in conversation.
“Then comes the big one. When William becomes king, Kate will be Queen Consort – at that moment, she is Her Majesty.
“If you met her, she’d be Your Majesty followed by ma’am.”
The royal commentator revealed the Queen and the Queen Mother created quite a confusion when trying to reach out to the other by phone as operators had to address them both as “Her Majesty.

She added: “Back in the day when the Queen Mother was still alive, the Queen and the Queen Mother would call each other pretty much every day.
“The phone operator always had a lot of fun connecting them together saying, ‘Your Majesty, Her Majesty, Your Majesty,’ to them.
“Delightfully confusing, that’s the British Royal Family.”
While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are not expected to ascend the throne for years, royal commentators have agreed Kate has emerged as a skilled Queen in the making.

Expert Erin Hill suggested the Duchess is “well prepared” for the future role because of the experience she built up while the girlfriend of Prince William.
The pair met at St. Andrews’ University in 2001 and dated on and off for nearly ten years before tying the know in 2011.
Ms Hill said: “Kate had almost a decade as William’s girlfriend so she had a front seat to the pressures and pitfalls of what it takes to be in the Royal Family.
“She knew very well what she was getting into around the time of her wedding, she was well prepared.
“She is the perfect person for this – she has a great temperament, she’s a great support for William who will be the king so she’s in the right role.”
