Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, made a surprising virtual appearance on her shared Instagram account with Prince William on Monday. To mark International Women’s Day, she spoke to the youngest woman to solo row across the Atlantic Ocean. However, the recording of Kate’s video call was released against the backdrop of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with legendary talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

This aired on Sunday in the US, and on Monday in the UK, on ITV.

Meghan described her sister-in-law as a “good person” but explained how they had a falling out in the run-up to the wedding, which she claimed Kate later made amends for.

Still, the Sussexes’ take on why they left the Royal Family will have seriously rocked the Palace and the Labour Party has even called for a response to some allegations after more than 24 hours of silence from the Firm.

Although the Duchess of Cambridge has not addressed it, a royal source told Vanity Fair last year that Kate “has taken Megxit badly” — referring to the couple’s royal exit — especially as she used to see Harry as a younger brother.

Kate has always abided by the Royal Family’s motto of ‘never complain, never explain’, and so is extremely unlikely to speak out in the aftermath of the Sussexes’ interview.

Yet, she was once caught off guard in public and was pictured with “tears in her eyes” when she was visiting East Anglia Children’s Hospice (EACH), according to a 2014 report.

The article read: “Kate was particularly touched by one woman’s story, Leigh Smith, who lost her three-month-old baby from a rare heart condition.

“Leigh had sent the Duchess a letter about her late baby Beatrice and had received a personal reply from the royal.

“Baby Beatrice spent her final days at the Quidenham hospice which EACH replaced with a new facility called The Nook.”

The article continued: “Throwing her arms around Leigh, Kate called the 33-year-old physiotherapist a ‘brave lady’ when she met her in person at the launch event.”

Ms Smith told Hello! magazine: “Kate sought me out and gave me a hug just before she left.

“I was getting quite teary-eyed, she had tears in her eyes, and she just said to me, ‘You’re a very brave lady and again, I’m just so, so sorry’.”

During that same event, Kate declared that she was “enormously proud to be their patron”.

The Duchess of Cambridge was pregnant with her second child, Princess Charlotte, at the time of this encounter.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton 'will never heal' says expert

Kate has often put working with children at the forefront of her royal work during her decade in the Firm.

She revealed the results of her survey, ‘five big questions for under fives’, back in November after months of research and it was hailed as a monumental moment for the education sector.

Introducing the research findings, she said: “I believe the early years should be on par with the other great social challenges and opportunities of our time.”

Kate has often spoken openly about the ups and downs of parenting her three children.

The Duchess was also praised for persevering with her humanitarian work throughout 2020 despite the difficulties of both the lockdown and the ongoing fallout from Meghan and Harry’s royal exit.

It’s important to note that Meghan dismissed notions of deep-rooted rivalry between her and Kate when speaking to Oprah.

She said there was a narrative of a “hero and a villain” during her time on the royal frontline with Kate.

The Duchess of Sussex continued: “She’s a good person.

“So much of what I have seen play out is this idea of polarity where if you love her, you don’t have to hate her.

“And if you love her, you don’t need to hate me.”
