Kate Middleton and Jill Biden join schoolchildren as they meet during G7
The Duchess of Cambridge has met the United States’ First Lady Jill Biden for the first time during the G7 summit in Cornwall.
Kate, who is taking an increasingly more important role within the royal family, spent time with Dr Biden this afternoon.
They visited an academy school for four to 11-year-olds in Cornwall to highlight the issue of the early years development of children.
It is the first time the two women have met and during the visit they were expected to tour a classroom and hold a roundtable discussion on early education.
Kate will also join her husband, William, and the Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at the G7 leaders reception at the Eden Project on Friday evening.
The Bidens have been getting well acquainted with the British establishment since landing in the UK on Wednesday, including meeting Boris Johnson and his new wife Carrie.
The four went for a walk on the beach in Cornwall and also met the couple’s young son Wilfred.
The Bidens will travel to Windsor Castle on Sunday when the summit is over to enjoy tea with the Queen.
Dr Biden was asked on Thursday about meeting the royal family and said: ‘Well, we’re hoping to focus, I think, on education.
‘Joe and I are both looking forward to meeting the Queen. That’s an exciting part of the visit for us. We’ve looked forward to this for weeks and now it’s finally here. It’s a beautiful beginning.’
