Kate lets Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis break THIS royal tradition
Kate and Prince William exchange gifts with other senior royals on Christmas Eve, honouring the German roots of the House of Windsor. But the Cambridges, who are said to be trying to give their children a life as normal as possible, are believed to be letting Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis open their own on Christmas morning at their Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall, nearby to the Queen’s Sandringham estate.
Marlene Koenig, royal expert and founder of royal website Royal Musings, said: “The British royals still follow the German tradition of opening presents on Christmas Eve.
“The members of the family who are present at Sandringham exchange gifts, usually not expensive.
“The gifts are put out on a trestle table after tea time.”
However, the expert added, the children likely open the presents coming from Santa Claus on December 25.
Indeed the children believe in Santa, as confirmed by Prince William during the BBC special A Berry Royal Christmas.
Asked while visiting The Passage organisation what he would buy six-year-old George for Christmas, the Duke of Cambridge said: “Well, George has already written his list for Father Christmas.
“He loves his drawing, he’s a very good drawer.
“We might give him something to do with drawing, or football.
“Loving his football as well!”
The third-in-line to the throne asked Santa for a police car last year, as revealed by his beaming father.
DON’T MISS
Prince William spoke about his son’s handwritten note to Santa during an official visit to Finland.
In his letter, George had circled the word “nice” to highlight he had been a good boy throughout the whole year.
According to the Duke of Cambridge, his firstborn wrote: “Dear Father Christmas this year I have been naughty/nice.”
William continued, laughing: “He hasn’t written down many requests, so I think one request is probably ok.”
The Duke also confirmed his son had been a “nice boy”.
Earlier this month, an insider revealed Princess Charlotte had a clear idea of what she wanted Santa to give her this year – a pony.
Princess Charlotte is “obsessed with horses”, the source claimed.
But she is unlikely to get what she wished for, the source continued, because her father is against it.
Speaking to Closer magazine, they said: “Charlotte takes after Queen Elizabeth and is obsessed with horses.
“She’s asked for a pony, but might have to wait until next year because William thinks she’s too young.”
The presents exchanged by adults on Christmas Eve are known to be rather funny and silly.
And Kate herself showed off she can be very good at joking with her royal relatives, when she presented Prince Harry with a ‘make your own girlfriend’ kit, years before he met his now wife Meghan Markle.
Royals podcast contributor Angela Mollard said: “They are quite light-hearted around presents.
“They don’t give a nice linen set or anything like that, it’s all like presents.
“So one year Kate gave Prince Harry, before he got married, a blow-up your own girlfriend kit – no, a make your own girlfriend kit.”
