Kate hiding much ‘tougher’ streak as she prepares for future leading royal role
Prince William appears to comfort Kate
Kate, the Princess of Wales has been hiding her more “steely” side over the years, according to author Valentine Low.
Low suggested the wife of the heir to the throne has increasingly been playing a key role in ensuring the stability of the monarchy for years to come.
The Princess of Wales has taken on a growing number of duties since succeeding Queen Camilla in the position of the second most senior lady of the United Kingdom.
And even before then, Low said she has been a lot “tougher” out of public view and has been playing the “long game” in preparation for her future role as Queen.
The author said: “Interestingly, behind the scenes, she’s a lot more steely, a lot tougher than we give her credit.

“She’s this nice-looking woman, dresses nicely, smiles nicely, adopts sort of fairly uncontroversial charities. You know, they think she’s slightly bland.”
According to Low, Kate stepped forward to convince the late Queen to take a strong stance against claims Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leveled against the Royal Family in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During their 90-minute conversation with the talk show host, the couple claimed an unnamed member of the family had asked questions about the skin colour of their then-unborn son Prince Archie Harrison.
They also suggested the Duchess of Sussex’s growing popularity had sparked jealousy among other members of the institution.
While the Royal Family normally abides by the adage of “never complain, never explain”, the Palace issued a statement saying the “recollections may vary” in response to the interview.

In the paperback edition of his book Couriers, Low claimed the family was initially split on how to best respond to Meghan and Harry.
Prince William’s private secretary Jean-Christophe Gray allegedly devised the memorable phrasing of the statement, hinting that the members of the Royal Family disagreed with their allegations.
The author claimed the Princess of Wales expressed her support for Gray’s proposed approach to ensure the royal couple’s version of events was not accepted as the truth.
Low said: “There were some people in other [royal] households, who felt it would antagonize Harry and Meghan and would go down badly and just keep the whole unpleasantness going. But it was Kate who really strongly made the argument.”
He noted the Princess “thinks very carefully about the long-term security and strength and stability of the royal family as an institution” because she is aware that “she’s one day going to be Queen.”
The author added: “She’s good. She has a good eye on the big picture, the long game.”
