Kate has ‘wicked sense of humour’ without ‘airs and graces’, wedding hairdresser reveals

Richard Ward styled the Duchess of Cambridge’s hair for her royal wedding. And he has shared details about Kate and Prince William, who celebrated their ninth anniversary on Wednesday after tying the knot on April 29 2011.

Describing Kate’s “wicked sense of humour”, the hairdresser told US magazine People: “It’s quite dry, there’s no airs and graces – you can have a good joke with her.”

And he revealed William made him a cup of tea the first time he went to their house.

The hairdresser said: “The first time I went around to their house, it was actually William that made me a cup of tea! That was very nice.”

Mr Ward also told how the prince helped him show Kate her hair in the mirror ahead of the wedding reception.

He said: “I wanted to show Kate the back of her hair and I was struggling to walk with this 500-year-old mirror, and he just said, ‘Let me give you a hand,’ and I said, ‘No, no, honestly,’ but he took one end and I’ve got the other and we’re shuffling along with this mirror – he’s great, he really is.”

The hairdresser added that Kate looked “so unbelievable” when she got out of the car at Westminster Abbey.

He said: “When she got out of the car and I saw her properly in the dress, the whole thing. I couldn’t even speak, she looked so unbelievable.”

Kate’s brunette hair was styled into curls for her big day.

The bride stunned in a lace gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Westminster Abbey was filled with 2,000 guests to see the future king marry Kate.

Nearly 25 million people in the UK watched the live televised ceremony, with the worldwide TV audience estimated to be two billion.

And one million people lined the procession route as the newlyweds took an open-topped carriage from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace after the service.

Kate and William thanked royal fans for their messages on their ninth wedding anniversary.

They shared a picture from their royal wedding on their Kensington Palace social media accounts.

The caption said: “Nine years ago today – thank you for all your lovely messages on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding anniversary!”

Nine years later, William and Kate are parents-of-three to Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, two.

Any celebrations for their wedding anniversary are likely to have been low key amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The Cambridges have been staying at their Norfolk residence Anmer Hall during the pandemic.
