William and Kate become Prince and Princess of Wales

The newly-appointed Prince and Princess of Wales have three young children. Like their parents, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are all having to get to used to a new name change, since the death of Queen Elizabeth II last week. According to Royal Expert Angela Mollard, aside from an important change in her royal title, Kate is now tasked to teach George, Charlotte and Louis their new surname, Wales, amid their big move to Winsdor and starting at their new school.

Speaking on Australia’s Sunrise, Ms Mollard said: “This must have been an enormous few days for Catherine.

“She’s taken on a new role herself, but she’s also got to teach her very young children. aged nine, seven and four, that their surnames have changed.”

She added: “They are no longer George, Charlotte and Louis Cambridge, they are now George, Charlotte and Louis Wales.”

Ms Mollard continued: “Any parent will recognise that when you’ve taught a young child how to spell their name, that’s the name they’re knowing to among their classmates.”

She also pointed out that the three children have all recently started at a new school.

She added that “being introduced to children, other children [and] suddenly they’ve got a new name, it could be quite destabilising for these young kids.”

George, Charlotte and Louis have “just moved house, just moved school and now, of course, have this great rupture in their family”.

On September 7, the day before the Queen’s passing, the three children held on tightly to Kate and William’s hands as they arrived for a settling-in session at Lambrook School.

The family were greeted by Jonathan Perry, the headmaster of Lambrook School.

This is the first time all three children have attended the same school.

Being slightly younger, four-year-old Louis was previously at a different education setting in London to his two elder siblings.

The family-of-five are now based at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, following their move from London earlier this month.

It has been been speculated that the family could move into Windsor Castle, although, if correct, the couple are likely to postpone their move, in a bid to prevent their children from facing more disruption.

Despite this speculation, the family are reportedly “very happy” following their move into Adelaide Cottage.
