Royal author Duncan Larcombe said Prince William’s wife has come into her own during the last year after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry plunged the Royal Family into crisis with Megxit. Mr Larcombe’s comments come as the Cambridges celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday.

Mr Larcombe told OK! magazine: “He knew she was more than capable, but wanted her to be really sure, hence the long courtship.

“It seems crazy now, but before the wedding, some people thought Kate was a little dull.

“There was a bit of ‘she’s no Diana’ and ‘she’s never going to be a style icon’ – but look how she’s proved them wrong.

“She was never going to be a rock-star, red-carpet royal, but in the last 12 months post-Megxit, we have really seen the coming of age of Kate.

“She is really starting to look like a Queen-in-waiting.”

Kate and William tied the knot on April 29 2011.

The pair met when they were students at the University of St Andrews.

Kate is said to have caught William’s eye when she walked down the catwalk in a see-through dress at a charity fashion show in 2002.

They announced their engagement in November 2010.

Westminster Abbey was filled with 2,000 guests to see the future King marry Kate less than six months later.

The bride wore a lace gown designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, while the groom was dressed in the red tunic of the Irish Guards.

Nearly 25 million people in the UK watched the live televised ceremony, with the worldwide TV audience estimated to be two billion.

And one million people lined the procession route as the newlyweds took an open-topped carriage from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace after the service.

William, 38, and Kate, 39, are now parents to Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and three-year-old Prince Louis.

It has been a turbulent time for the Royal Family following Megxit and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, which aired last month.

Harry returned to the UK earlier this month for the first time in a year for Prince Philip’s funeral.

The royal patriarch died peacefully aged 99 at Windsor Castle on April 9.

The Queen now reigns alone without the support of her “strength and stay”, as she famously described her beloved husband.
