The Duke of York was stripped of his military affiliations and Royal patronages earlier this month. This followed a ruling stating the civil case brought again him by Virginia Giuffre could proceed to trial.
His affiliations have been handed back to the Queen, Buckingham Palace confirmed.
Royal expert Marlene Koenig claimed Her Majesty could do worse than giving the position of Grenadier Guards Colonel to Kate, wife of Prince William.
She told Express.co.uk the Duchess of Cambridge has all the right qualities to fill the role.
Mrs Koenig, of the Royal Musings blog, said: “What a great idea.
“The Duchess is the next but one Queen Consort, so why not be the new Colonel?
“I think she would carry out her duties with pride, respect and admiration for the Guards.”
Kate is also reported to have the backing of the Grenadier Guards themselves.
A senior member of the regiment told the Sunday Times: “From straw polling through the ranks, they would all love it to be Kate.

“We all admire the way she has fitted in and behaved, she never seems to put a foot wrong.”
They added: “Everything she has taken on she really commits to, and we want someone who will really engage with us.”
Kate would become the first appointed female colonel in the Grenadier Guards’ history.

For Mrs Koenig, the prospect of the Duchess becoming the regiment’s Colonel pointed to other interesting questions which royal fans would be keen to see answered.
She asked: “If named [Colonel], will she join Charles, William and Anne on a horse in the Trooping the Colour?”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reported to have taken on further roles within the Royal Family after Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped back from senior duties in 2020.
Author Andrew Lownie said late last year the couple had been given a “higher role” within the family because of their great popularity among Britons.
He told Express.co.uk: “William and Kate, who seem to be very popular, are stepping into the position that Charles and Camilla had.
“Because they are, I would say almost more popular than Charles and Camilla, they’ve probably been given a higher role.”
