Kate brushes off shocking snub in awkward encounter during royal visit

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge was caught in an awkward moment when she was snubbed by members of the public during a royal visit to the Fakenham Garden Centre. This marked Kate’s first public engagement since the outbreak of coronavirus and the Duchess spoke with staff and customers while shopping herself. Royal commentators Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito revealed that Kate attempted to try and talk with an elderly couple who promptly brushed her off.

The two Royally Obsessed podcast presenters explained the couple did not recognise the Duchess.

They then praised Kate for her relatable response as she simply nodded smiled and moved on to exploring the garden after realising the couple had not recognised her.

Ms Bowie said: “I saw a snippet from this particular outing that Kate did.

“A lot of the customers at this garden centre didn’t recognise while she was walking around.

“There’s hilarious pictures of her and I think a video of a clip of her saying a lot of people are buying herbs today.

“Then this elderly couple are like ‘yes’, and wondering, ‘why is this person is talking to us’ and then walked away.”

The royal commentators laughed at the exchange and explained the reaction of the elderly couple who were later informed of the Duchess’ presence.

Ms Bowie continued: “They later said to the press, it was the Duchess of Cambridge and we had no idea and we felt like we brushed her off completely.”

The royal commentator then praised Kate for her reaction to the awkward encounter.

She said: “Kate took it in stride, so professionally.

“The Duchess said okay, nodded, smiled and then walked away realising the couple don’t know who she is.

“I thought that was an amazing snippet of her and how trained she is at all of this.

“It was also nice to see how excited the Cambridge’s are to get back out there.”

Ms Fiorito also commended Kate and said it was the first day the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge undertaken their duties outside since March 19th.

Prince William also resumed his royal duties as he visited a base at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in King’s Lynn.

The royal couple are expected to continue fulfilling their duties as long as they continue to abide by social distancing rules as lockdown restrictions are eased.
