Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, delighted London schoolchildren when she joined a Zoom video call with them and tennis star Andy Murray to mark what would have been Wimbledon finals week. The sporting event, which is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, was forced to cancel its 2020 Championships due to the coronavirus outbreak. HeirPod host Omid Scobie pointed out an interesting insight from the royal’s call that demonstrated her growth during the nationwide lockdown.

He told podcast listeners: “I would say at this point, Kate has definitely become quite a pro when it comes to the Zoom calls.

“From what started out as perhaps a little bit of shyness on these calls, she’s really come into her own.

“I think it always helps when she’s doing an engagement with children.”

The royal spoke to pupils from Bond Primary School about the outdoors and what they had been doing during lockdown.

The students were particularly pleased with Sir Andy’s appearance as they are also budding tennis players and athletes involved in the Wimbledon Foundation.

The programme works with young children who are interested in getting into tennis.

Kate teased the children by getting them to guess who the surprise guest on the call was going to be.

Sir Andy joining the chat prompted cheers and laughter from the pupils.

The former Wimbledon Champion shared his experiences of playing tennis growing up, some vital tips to better their game, and how he’s managed training over the last few months.

Kate is the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

She has made appearances at semi-finals and finals each year since assuming her role in the Royal Family.

Although the Duchess has continued to do virtual engagements, she has begun to come into public again.

With the UK’s coronavirus lockdown restrictions easing, the Royal Family has started to step outside and travel for engagements.

Recently Kate joined families from East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) to help plant a garden at The Nook, one of the charity’s purpose-build hospices.

Those living in England are allowed to meet up to six people in a group outside, permitting that those in different households remain socially distanced.

The two-metre rule has also been ditched in favour of “1 metre-plus”.
