Kate, Princess of Wales beamed as she visited Harvard University’s child development centre on Friday. The Princess, who attended the centre without her husband, met with researchers to learn all about the work they are doing around early years development – a topic close to her heart.

Elsewhere in the city, Prince William will be heading to the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston where he plans to meet with Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of JFK and current US Ambassador to Australia.

Kate visited the world-renowned Centre on the Developing Child as part of her efforts to promote the importance of early years care.

Sources close to the princess said she is “passionate” about the subject and has been hoping to visit researchers at Harvard for some time.

The 40-year-old has dedicated much of her time to learning about childhood development, looking into how experiences are often the root cause of today’s hardest social challenges.

Some topics Kate has focused on include addiction, family breakdown, poor mental health, suicide and homelessness.

Kate and William crossed the pond for the first time in eight years this week to announce the winners of the Earthshot awards, which will take place this evening.

This year, two UK finalists are in the running, including Notpla, which makes a seaweed-based alternative to plastic packaging, and Low Carbon Materials, a company working on environmentally-friendly building materials.

The royal couple touched down in Boston on Wednesday and have been keeping to a busy schedule since.

So far, the pair have attended a Boston Celtics basketball game and have met with officials, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

Kate and William are also expected to meet with President Joe Biden before their three-day trip is over.

“The president intends to greet the Prince and Princess of Wales when he is in Boston,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Wednesday.
