Kate and William follow Meghan and Harry with heartfelt Instagram post for Waitangi Day
Kate and William shared a heartfelt message on their Kensington Royal social media accounts celebrating Waitangi Day. William and Kate’s post in Maori read: “Ko tēnei rā o Waitangi ko te rā hararei o te motu o Aotearoa. Tēnei te tuku mihi maioha ki ngā kaitautāwhi katoa o Aotearoa.” This means: “Waitangi Day is New Zealand’s national holiday. This is a special thank you to all the New Zealanders.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a tribute of pictures featuring Kate and William performing the traditional Maori greeting, the hongi.
However,Kate and William were beaten to the post by Harry and Meghan who posted a tribute just minutes before the royal parents of three.
Meghan and Harry’s touching post reflected on their visit to New Zealand in 2018 and said: “As a commonwealth country and a realm, today we honour the spirit and diversity of New Zealand, and we feel particularly reminded of the special time we had there during our tour in 2018.”
William and Kate visited New Zealand during their royal tour in 2014.
Prince George, only a baby at the time, accompanied them.
He stole the hearts of New Zealanders, with thousands wanting to get a glimpse of the future king.
During their visit the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid their respects to New Zealand’s soldiers from World War 1 and World War 2.
They laid a wreath in the town of Blenheim to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the World War 1.
The Duchess and William also unveiled a portrait of the Queen.
They performed hongi, which is a traditional Maori greeting.
Four years later, Harry and Meghan followed in their footsteps.
After greeting fans, Meghan and Harry visited the Ohinemutu for a traditional Maori Powhiri and lunch.
They were loved by New Zealanders, and it looked like they throughly enjoyed themselves.
Following Meghan and Harry’s bombshell resignation as senior royals last month, Kate and William have reportedly been put under a lot of pressure.
