The floor plans of their apartment in Kensington Palace revealed that the two master bedrooms are on the ground floor. Most people prefer their bedrooms on the upper floors of where they live.
It is believed that the upper floors of the apartment are used by their staff.
William and Kate have only shared small glimpses inside their home at Kensington Palace in the past, with their sleeping quarters strictly off-limits.
However, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did once let slip that
George and Charlotte have Ikea furniture in their bedrooms, during a visit to Sweden’s national museum of architecture and design in Stockholm in 2018.
Marcus Engman, Ikea’s head of design, said they told him that they had some of the company’s furniture for Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
He said: “I’m proud that we can suit everybody.
“That’s what we want Ikea to be – for the many people of the world, both royalty and ordinary people.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are not the only royal residents of Kensington Palace, though.
It is also home to the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke and Duchess of Kent and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
The palace is split into “apartments” – but these are not what ordinary folk would consider apartments, according to one royal author.
Speaking on the Royal Beat podcast, Christopher Warwick explained: “All of these royal residences at Kensington Palace are called apartments, which of course makes people immediately think they are flats like the American term for an apartment.

“They are not. If you think of Kensington Place in a way it is built around three courtyards.
“If you kind of think of them as being these wonderful red brick terrace houses. Because they are all joined, but separate houses.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s apartment has twenty rooms, including five reception rooms, three master bedrooms and two nurseries.
Mr Warwick noted: “it is not a small house.”
William III bought the Jacobean mansion, originally known as Nottingham House, in 1689 from his Secretary of State, the Earl of Nottingham.
After purchasing the property, he commissioned Christopher Wren – famed for buildings such as St Paul’s Cathedral – to extend and improve the house.
Until the death of George II in 1760, Kensington Palace was the favourite residence of successive sovereigns, according to the royal family.
Queen Victoria was born and brought up in the Palace and news of her accession to the throne in 1837 was brought to her there by the Lord Chamberlain and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
However, despite expectations, she would rule from Kensington Palace, she almost immediately moved to Buckingham Palace and never stayed there again.
Since Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace has been seen as the primary residence of the British monarch.
