The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first-born son turn eight years old on July 22, and is third in the line of succession. But a royals source has said William and Kate are afraid of over-exposing George in case he gets harassed online.

A source claimed Kate and William are concerned that George will be subject to new pressures they did not have.

The source said: “Of course, William and Kate are nervous about what the future holds for George.

“He’s growing up in a different era to his parents. Times have changed since then.

“There wasn’t social media or internet trolls when William and Kate were children.”

Speaking to Us Weekly for its new issue, the royal source shared William and Kate have shielded their children from the public eye.

They said: “The Cambridges feel it’s necessary to shield George, Charlotte and Louis from the spotlight and have become cautious about the appearances [they] make.

“Kate and William are being more selective about the events he attends.”

Us Weekly’s source also claimed both William and Kate are “moving away from [the] mentality” of the “stiff upper lip”.

Instead, they have “a more modern approach,” focusing on “open communication” with their children.

George’s latest appearance was at the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium.

Roya Nikkhah, Sunday Times’ Royal Correspondent, told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: “It was a very clever way of introducing him to public duties at such a young age because this is an official duty for Prince George at the age of seven.

“It’s lovely and happy and there’s a lot of emotion.

“Getting him used to big crowds and knowing that he is being watched by millions of people—it’s quite a clever way of doing it.”

It comes as a new animation series of George has sparked fury over fears it is “opening the Cambridges up to bullying”.

The US show, ‘The Prince’, imagines the life of the Royal Family through the satirical eyes of the eight year old royal.

Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu said on Good Morning Britain: “Children are off-limits.

“It is uncalled for. It makes us all look like a bunch of hypocrites.”
