Prior to Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal exit in 2020, the brothers and their wives were dubbed the ‘Fab Four’ by the British press. Tensions, particularly between Harry and Prince William, escalated further following the Sussexes decision to step down as senior royals in January 2020. However, according to royal expert and Vanity Fair‘s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl, the heir to the throne and the Princess of Wales were slightly relieved when the Sussexes departed, as they felt the “drama was gone”.

Ms Nicholl told True Royalty’s The Royal Beat: “I was told that however much sadness [Megxit] has caused William and Kate – you know this is a family.

“These are brothers, the three of them were so close, I think it has been heartbreaking for them.

“There was a sense of relief when [Harry and Meghan] left, because they felt the drama had gone.”

Meghan first met Harry in 2016, through mutual friends, two years before their royal wedding in May 2018.

Harry and Meghan got engaged the following year, in November 2017.

In 2019, People had reported that the supposed tension between the brothers started because William thought that things between Meghan and Harry were “moving too fast”.

At the time, royal correspondent Simon Perry told the publication that Harry was left “angry and hurt” by William’s concerns.

Despite this, Meghan and Harry tied the knot in May 2018, and have since welcomed two children together.

Tensions between Harry and William have heightened even further since, with The Sun reporting earlier this year, that the two brothers are “barely on speaking terms” following Megxit.

Despite the tragic circumstances, the two brothers were reunited earlier this month.

Following the death of their beloved grandmother, Prince William and Harry, along with their wives, stepped out together for a walkabout in Windsor.

On September 10, all four of them, all dressed in black, greeted royal mourners lining the streets.

It is one of a handful of times that the brothers have appeared amicably together since Harry and Meghan’s royal exit.

Both brothers attended the funeral of their late grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, in April 2021. At the time, Meghan was pregnant with Lilibet so didn’t attend with Harry.

Three months later, in July 2021, Harry returned to the UK to join his elder brother to unveil a statue of their late mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday.

The brothers would have been reunited again in March this year for the late Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service.

However, Harry was notably absent and his fears over security were noted as the reason for his no-show.
