The Prince and Princess of Wales may have stopped seeing eye to eye with the Sussexes when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry split from the Royal Foundation in 2019, according to an expert. After rumours of disagreements between the two couples, Meghan and Harry went on to move to their own royal charity projects, breaking away from the original charity. Kate and William have since reportedly been concerned about Prince Harry and Meghan profiting from the Royal Family, a royal correspondent said.

When asked what role Prince Harry played in the royal rift, the Daily Express’s Royal Correspondent Richard Palmer said two factors contributed to tensions between the Sussexes and the Royal Family.

He said one of the issues was “that the brothers fell out because William was worried that Harry was moving too fast when he first started seeing Meghan”.

Speaking on the Daily Express’s Royal Round-Up, he said: “There was cautioning whether getting engaged was the right thing to do.

“But then, the other really important thing, which the Sussexes’ fans really don’t like hearing but he’s absolutely spot-on, is that there were concerns from very early on that Harry and Meghan wanted to commercialise the monarchy.

“They wanted to benefit commercially from their royal status. And that was given as the reason why the two brothers and their wives went separate ways with the Royal Foundation.

“Because William and Kate felt that it wasn’t the right thing to do, that it was going to damage their standing in the Royal Foundation if there were commercial links.”

Before Prince Harry met and got married to Meghan, he and his brother William alongside Kate worked together on the Royal Foundation to eliminate stigma around mental health.

Meghan later joined the trio by becoming the Duchess of Sussex as the fourth patron of the Royal Foundation in 2018. The Fab Four’s appearance would be their only official charity engagement together.

Only a year later, the two brothers, who founded the charity back in 2009, decided to split the Royal Foundation in 2019 over rumours of disagreements between the two couples.

The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex went on to set up their own charitable foundation, while the original charity was renamed the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Now based in their mansion in Montecito, California, Meghan and Harry are working on their own projects.

While Meghan launched her Archetypes podcast, Harry is expected to publish his bombshell tell-all book, titled Spare, on January 10, 2023, in a move that could draw the ire of the royals.

The tell-all memoir, which tells Prince Harry’s “firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful”, would reportedly be “critical of everyone and everything”, the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor reported, adding royals are “dreading it”.

Markus Dohle, global CEO of Penguin Random House, said Prince Harry “shares a remarkably moving personal journey from trauma to healing, one that speaks to the power of love and will inspire and encourage millions of people around the world”.

Prince Harry’s proceeds from Spare will be given to charities like Sentebale, an AIDS organisation which supports vulnerable children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana, and WellChild, an organisation that makes it possible for children and young people with complex health needs to be cared for at home instead of hospital.
