Comments posted onto the Express.co.uk website were open and frank as to their thoughts on the Deputy Labour leader’s speech to supporters late on Saturday evening. One reader, “Sitcom” said of the tirade: “No real arguments, just abusive rants, no policy.”
Another reader, “The Dancer” continued on the same tone: “Keep ranting like that and labour will never get into Government.”
“Nomad” commentated directly on the personality of Rayner saying: “What a nasty lady. If that’s what her feelings are fine, but keep your comments to yourself in public. She should be kicked out she is not fit for politics.”
Some of the comments however seemed to agree with the social ladder Rayner was laying claim to.
“Sublimus” said: “The bigger problem with the Tories is that they literally hate ordinary people, and that it gives them deep satisfaction to make their lives as miserable as possible.”
Attempting to demonstrate the achievements of the Labour Party in her speech, the Deputy Labour said: “We’ve seen with our mayors, we’ve seen that with Steve [Rotheram] and Andy [Burnham], we’ve seen it with our members in local government, the difference we’ve made in when we’re in power.”
Stating that Labour supporters are now “sick of shouting from the sidelines” her comments became more inflamed when she said: “We cannot get any worse that a bunch of scum, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, absolute pile of banana republic, vile, nasty, Etonian, posh… piece of scum.”
Although the speech was alleged to have been met with thunderous applause by the members, not all were so supportive.
Government minister, Amanda Milling described the Labour MP’s remarks as “shocking” and demanded an apology from Ms Rayner.
Fellow Foreign Office minister, James Cleverly went one further: “I’m sure this went down well in the room but when voters look at the party that has had both female PM’s, with half of the great offices of state filled by women, half by BAME, most diverse government, more gay ministers than Labour ever had etc, they’ll know she’s talking crap.”
Rayner defended her comments the next day claiming they were made “post-watershed”.
The comments and current form of the Labour government saw some readers call out Ms Rayner.
“Getoutforgood” said: “I’d imagine many people were forced to vote Tory seeing as Labour took us into a war based on lies! Spent every penny and put us into recession! Then ignore the majority of Labour voters who didn’t wish to remain in the EU! So technically, she’s calling every ex-Labour voter a racist.”

Others took the rant as a sign of the times in the Labour Party.
“I’d like to vote Labour, but with this hateful scum in charge of the party I can’t bring myself to put a cross in their box,” said “April Smyth”.
Whilst “Jimyorkshire” said: “What an advert for the Labour/Communist Party, why would you want that running the country.”
In a world where technology has brought with it the notion of real-time information sharing, a slipped comment or raging rant has become more significant than ever.
With Ms Rayner claiming that it was her attempt get across a message in her
“passionate way”, it remains very clear that Ms Rayner, as well as any other MP or government official has to know that every comment, public or not, is now game for challenge and scrutiny.
