JSO supporter eco-tycoon Dale Vince launches ‘world’s first electric airline’
A Just Stop Oil-supporting entrepreneur has unveiled a new project offering holidaymakers the chance to fly eco-friendly.
Ecojet, launched by Just Stop Oil supporter and founder of Ecotricity Dale Vince, aims to provide zero-emissions flights starting in 2025. Mr Vince proudly describes Ecojet as the “world’s first electric airline”.
The airline plans to operate charter flights between Southampton and Edinburgh, using planes retrofitted with hydrogen-electric engines.
Onboard, passengers will be treated to plant-based meals, served by staff wearing environmentally-friendly uniforms, as part of the company’s commitment to green travel.

Mr Vince said: “The question of how to create sustainable air travel has plagued the green movement for decades. Ecojet is by far the most significant step towards a solution to date.
“The desire to travel is deeply etched into the human spirit, and flights free of C02 emissions, powered by renewable energy will allow us to explore our incredible world without harming it for the first time.”
While initially focused on UK routes, Ecojet aims to offer flights to mainland Europe and, ultimately, long-haul trips to destinations such as the US and Asia.
Dale Vince is a multi-millionaire vegan eco-tycoon known for his generous donations to the Labour Party and Just Stop Oil.

The engines Ecojet will use are designed by a company called ZeroAvia which recently flew nine test flights at Cotswold Airport, close to Cirencester.
Mr Vince’s fleet will consist of two sizes of conventional aeroplanes, a 19-seat and a 70-seat plane retrofitted with the engines.
Unlike traditional aviation, which contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, the processes inside the engines only produce water as a waste product.
According to Mr Vince, Ecojet will save 90,000 of carbon annually.
Ecojet’s electric planes are also tipped to offer a serene and peaceful flight experience, thanks to their nearly silent electric motors.
Vince has also tried to assure the public his flight prices will be competitive.
The boss, who has invested £1 million in the company but will raise additional funds next year, told the MailOnline that the airline will price match with existing flights so “all can afford”.
However, Ecojet’s journey towards guilt-free air travel will not happen straight away.
The company plans to commence operations next year, but the first flights will rely on traditional polluting turbine engines until the hydrogen-electric powertrains receive approval from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Retrofitting of the aircraft is scheduled for 2025, a year after the launch of conventional high-emission flights in 2024.
