Jordan Ibe arrest: Premier League star charged after Bentley smashes into coffee shop

A spokesman for the police force said: “A man has been charged with driving offences after a car collided with a shop on Plaistow Lane in Bromley on Tuesday, 30 July. “Jordon Ibe, 23, of Poole, Dorset was charged via postal requisition on Tuesday, 29 October with driving without due care an attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 27 November.”

According to The Sun, Mr Ibe was behind the wheel of his 4×4 in the early hours of July 30.

It is alleged that his car ploughed into The Pantry in Bromley, South East London.

It is claimed the £38,000-a-week Bournemouth footballer drove off, following the collision, but was subsequently tracked down through a wing mirror that was found at the crash site.

The shop suffered substantial structural damage, which is estimated to run into thousands of pounds.

A source interviewed by the Daily Mirror at the time said: “The owners got there and were gobsmacked.

“The entire shop front was smashed and they were worried there was structural damage.

“They were out of pocket from loss of earnings and having to fix the damage.

“They had no idea who was responsible but there was a wing mirror in the rubble.”

The shop owner Michael Dixon told the Sun Online: ”We only opened again about a week and a half ago. It’s been so stressful.”

The incident happened just days before Bournemouth were due to start their Premier League campaign against Sheffield United.

The match finished 1-1.

Mr Ibe started his football career playing for Wycombe Wanderers, where he made his professional debut at the age of 15.

The attacking midfielder then joined Liverpool in 2012, but was unable to secure a starting place in the first team.

He ended up going out on loan to Championship clubs Birmingham City in the 2013–14 season and Derby County in 2014–15.

When Jurgen Klopp took over the reigns at Liverpool from Brendan Rodgers, Mr Ibe was given a further chance to stake his claim for a place in the first team.

Unfortunately, he failed to impress and was sold in 2016 to Bournemouth for £15 million.

In an interview with the website complex.com, Mr Ibe revealed his passion for football and what drove him on to become a successful professional sportsman.

He explained: ”My dad used to take me out and play when I was four or five-years-old and I started playing with the bigger boys when I was around seven or eight and it really kicked on from there.

“I never remember not playing football. It was just so passionate! None of us were professionals and some were young, some were older than me, but none of us ever wanted to lose – we treated every game like a Champions League final, literally!

“We’d play for hours and hours, a lot longer than the 90 minutes you see me playing now. We’d come out at 3pm once school finished and probably wouldn’t be home until 9pm that same night…it was what we loved to do.”

He revealed that the route to success in elite level sport lay in hard work and developing an elite mentality, as well as ensuring the right support structures were in place.

He said: “It was very difficult – especially on my family’s behalf, they were the ones that took me to training late at night and games all over the country…my sister was still in a pram! It was a lot of travelling but it’s paid off.

“It’s all about hard work and having an elite mentality, as well as the support from friends and family to achieve your dreams.”
