John le Carré: Author dead at age 89

John Le Carre, legendary British author of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, has died. His long-time literary agent shared the news, hailing him as “an undisputed giant of English literature”. The author, who defined Cold-War fiction and went on to inspire adaptations of his work on film and television, died aged 89.

How did John Le Carre die?

Mr Le Carre’s agent Jonny Geller shared the news via Twitter tonight, and released a statement.

He said the author died of pneumonia, not related to Covid-19.

Mr Geller wrote: “It is with great sadness that we must confirm that David Cornwell – John le Carré – passed away from pneumonia last Saturday night after a short battle with the illness.”
