Prince Joachim will follow in the footsteps of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by moving to the US following a feud with the Danish Royal Family, it has been confirmed. The Danish Royal Family revealed on Friday that the second son of Queen Margrethe and his wife Princess Marie will move to Washington DC this summer.
The 53-year-old blue-blooded Dane will start his new role at the Danish Embassy under the Ministry of Defence on September 1.
Joachim and Marie’s two children, 13-year-old Henrik and 11-year-old Athena, will join their parents in the American capital.
Joachim is also the father of Nikolai, 23, and Felix, 20, to his previous marriage with Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg.
Amalienborg Palace’s statement also revealed Joachim and his 47-year-old wife relocated to France four years ago.

The statement said: “The reason was that Prince Joachim initiated France’s highest-ranking military training course as a supplement to the Prince’s long-term commitment to the Defence.
“After completing their education, both the Prince and Princess were associated with the Danish Embassy in Paris as the Defence Attaché and Special Cultural Representative, respectively.”
The move comes after Margrethe, 82, announced Joachim’s four children would lose their royal titles last year.
The royal quartet will instead be known as His or Her Excellency Count of Monpezat.
Following the announcement, Prince Joachim sat down with Danish outlet BT in which he revealed he has not spoken to his mother or brother Crown Prince Frederik.
He added: “It’s also family or whatever we want to call it.”
The Danish Queen also said in a statement: “It is my duty and my desire as Queen to ensure that the monarchy always shapes itself in keeping with the times.
“Sometimes, this means that difficult decisions must be made, and it will always be difficult to find the right moment.”

But Joachim’s stateside relocation comes just three years after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Montecito in California.
The couple moved to the Golden State in March 2020 after a stint in Canada.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle later revealed they would not return to the British Royal Family in a working capacity.
However, the 38-year-old and his 41-year-old wife have appeared at some events in the UK, including the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral.
