Jo Swinson shamed by furious LBC caller over election snub – ‘You’re not going to win’

The caller, introduced as Paul, said he would have considered voting for the Liberal Democrats if they had been open forming a coalition with the Conservative Party. The caller explained that he did not like Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn but would be voting for the current Prime Minister as he feared the economic consequences of a government led by Mr Corbyn.

Paul said: “There are millions of voters up and down the country who don’t want to vote for either Johnson or Corbyn, which really should have put you in a very strong position.

“But the problem for both of us, me included, is you’re probably not going to win.

“And therefore we have to hold our noses and vote for the person, in my case Boris Johnson who I really don’t like.

“But I have to stop Corbyn getting into government because in my view that would destroy the country economically.

“Had you said that you were prepared to go into coalition, I would have voted for you.”

The Liberal Democrats leader replied: “I totally understand your concerns about Jeremy Corbyn and we’ve seen in the news today further revelations that show this man is not fit to be Prime Minister.

“There’s lots of places that we can win as Liberal Democrats where previously they might have been Conservative strongholds and will not put Corbyn in number 10.

“I will work constructively cross-party.

“I don’t think we’re in coalition territory.”

Earlier today Good Morning Britain viewers saw hosts Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins quizzed leader of the Liberal Democrats Jo Swinson regarding the upcoming general election.

Mr Shephard probed Swinson on whether a coalition would be an option for the Liberal Democrats.

He said: “You could be holding the balance of power.

“If Labour could go into power in a relationship with the Lib Dems…”

Ms Swinson interjected: “I don’t think anyone is speaking of coalitions in any serious wain this election.”

Mr Shephard hit back: “But you must be planning that Jo!”

The Lib Dems leader continued: “We’ve seen in the news today what part of the problem is with Jeremy Corbyn.

“We’ve seen those young Labour staff who spoke out so powerfully, some months about anti-Semitism in the party, and Jeremy Corbyn’s failure to deal with that and that’s a fundamental thing.

“So I don’t believe Jeremy Corbyn is fit to be Prime Minister, I don’t believe Boris Johnson is either!”
