Jet-skiers stopped by police as they flout lockdown rules
Two jet-skiers were stopped by the police during the Easter weekend as they flouted coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
The duo had headed out off the coast of Fishbourne, in the Isle of Wight, on Sunday when they were spotted by marine officers. In a video, filmed by resident Helen Hopper, the police can be seen approaching the jet skis on the water.
In the clip, a male voice can be heard saying: ‘They are in trouble now’, while a woman says ‘oh dear’. They then both agree that the jet-skiing cannot be defined as ‘responsible activity in the midst of a global pandemic’.
Mum-of-two Helen shared the video online, writing in the caption: ‘Two gentlemen get their understanding corrected thanks to the boys in blue. At Fishbourne just now.’
It was later reshared by the Isle of Wight Police Facebook account, who said: ‘Helen Hopper caught our marine unit in action yesterday dealing with some jet ski riders on the Solent.’
Current lockdown restrictions dictate that no one should leave their homes unless to go to their jobs as key workers, to buy essential supplies such as food or medicine, or for their once-a-day daily exercise.
The measures were put in place on March 23, and are likely to continue for another three weeks while the government assesses their impact on curbing the pandemic.
At least 12,142 people have died from coronavirus in the UK, after a further 813 deaths were recorded today.
